The first step towards forging a stronger relationship with our friends, family and fellow citizens is to develop the relationship we have with ourselves.

Mindful conversation has the power to unlock the potential of our relationships. When we converse from a place of authenticity, we enrich the lives of others.

Recognizing how difficult emotions arise from lack of love, we can hold steady with an open heart during rough patches.

 About the Book

In a world of iPhones, social media and e-mail, we are all in constant contact.

Then why are so many people feeling burned out, distant from colleagues, and abandoned by family and friends?

Cutting through all the white noise, chatter, and superficiality our cell phones and social media cause, one of Tibet's highest and most respected spiritual leaders offers simple and practical advice to help us increase our attentions span, become better listeners, and strive to appreciate the people around us.

In this new book from the bestselling author of Running with the Mind of Meditation, the Sakyong uses the basic principles of the Shambhala tradition—meditation and a sincere belief in the inherent wisdom, compassion, and courage of all beings—to help readers to listen and speak more mindfully with loved ones, co-workers, strangers, and even ourselves.

About Our Courses

Shambhala Online courses are designed for those who don’t live near a Shambhala Center, or who need a particular course in order to continue on the path. Each course features a senior Shambhala teacher, an online community of participants, and facilitation by an experienced course leader. Over 6 to 8 weeks, course participants view recorded teachings, then gather in the online learning environment to discuss, contemplate and engage in exercises aimed at deepening their understanding.

When Does the Class Meet?

Most of the course is asynchronous. You may view the recorded talks at your convenience. The recommended schedule is to view one talk each week and complete the associated readings and exercises in the module. The course is open for 8 weeks.

Please note that an important aspect of the course involves meeting with other course participants in small groups for dialogue. The timing of live sessions with Acharya Chapman will be posted in the course.

How Much Time Does it Take?

Most participants spend 1 to 2 hours per week on the course. The talks average 45 minutes in length. Allow yourself time to do the readings, meditation practices and other assignments. It’s a good idea to schedule the time on your calendar as you would for a face-to-face class.
