Shambhala Online Weekly Dharma Gathering
“The Four Karmas”
with Dr. Shanté Paradigm Smalls
Hosted by Ashley Dinges
All are welcome to join these weekly events, which include guided meditation and a talk and discussion with a featured guest teacher.
On April 10, we are grateful to have Dr. Shanté Paradigm Smalls present a talk titled “The Four Karmas.” What do the Four Karmas--Pacifying, Enriching, Magnetizing, and Destroying--have to do with how we live our lives, how we interact with others, and how we relate with interlocking systems of oppression? In this talk, Dr. Smalls will present the Four Karmas as Humility, Community, Intelligence, and Refusal as ways to bring the ancient wisdom into our everyday lives as we wake up to our personal and societal delusions. This talk asks us all to take responsibility for our harmful behavior and our complicity in harmful systems.
This tradition began at Shambhala New York in the early 1990s as a way to welcome the greater community into the Shambhala center. Today, many Shambhala centers around the world continue to host these events for members and friends of the Shambhala community. We hope that these events will allow us to collectively examine the issues facing our sangha and larger society by spotlighting new and fresh voices across our mandala.
