Imagery plays an important part in Tibetan Buddhism, with its pantheon of deities, buddhas, and methodology of visualization. We will examine the purpose, meaning and varieties, of imagery in the paintings of Tibetan tradition known as thangka painting.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
Artist to the Court, Greg Smith studied Tibetan thangka painting with master artist Noedup Rongae and Shambhala Buddhism with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche starting in 1977. He has painted hundreds of thangkas and currently paints at Shambhala Mountain Center where he made designs and murals for the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya.
