Creativity is always possible, it depends on our attitude and our willingness to open and make new discoveries. With the right attitude the magic of clear perception can reveal endless fields of richness and possibilities, but only if we are willing to let go of our preconceptions. We can open, receive the gifts of our own insight, and dare to make our authentic gesture. Topics: Space - Meditation; Perception; Discipline; Discovery; Authentic Gesture.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Herbert Elsky is an American artist who has been living in France since 1995. He met Chogyam Trungpa in 1971 in Los Angeles and was a founding member of the Los Angeles Dharmadhatu, where he served as one of the early directors, The Dharmadhatu later became the Shambhala Center. He attended the first Vajradhatu seminary in 1973 and was one of Chogyam Trungpa’s close attendants, a Kusung. Herb studied the Dharma Art teachings with Rinpoche and was one of the instrumental people in creating the “Discovering Elegance” floral exhibition with Rinpoche in 1980. From 1980 until 1984 he was the Director of Shambhala Training in Los Angeles. From 1987 until 1991 he was the head of practice at Karme Chöling in Vermont. In 1995, at the request of the Sakyong, he moved to France with his wife Catherine, the architect who directed the renovations of the chateau which became Dechen Chöling. He was Head of Practice there for the first two years. He has taught Shambhala Training and Dharma Art programs in the U.S. and throughout Europe for more than forty years. In the U.S. he created and exhibited transparent sculptures made of polyester resin for more than twenty five years until he moved to France. His sculptures are included in many public and private collections. After moving to France his work changed dramatically. During the winter of 2004-2005 he created a theatre for performing visual and sound compositions and experiments called, the Theatre Las Balubas. Images of much of the work appear on his website: lasbalubas.fr.
