I was introduced to Jeremy Hayward‘s book, Perceiving Ordinary Magic, about 20 years ago. It was really helpful, particularly the chapter “Unlimited Gates of Perception,” which opened my eyes to the heart of our perceptual fields and how to enter those fields more fully. I’ll talk about how the drala practice and how the sacred world has informed my life through my almost 50 years of study and practice in Shambhala.

I often felt when I was studying the Sacred Path material that sitting in a shrine room was missing the mark. I began teaching the levels at Karmê Chöling, and other centers, spending a lot of time in the “field“ where we were able to do exercises and explorations enhancing the senses and waking up to the world around us. This fed my abiding interest in the natural world. Since moving to Missoula, Montana two years ago(after 40+ years in Vermont) I find myself in incredible spaces with large vistas, wild flowers, grizzly bears, rushing streams, and many delightful, new areas to explore our sacred world.
