From 1973-1986, the annual Vajradhatu Seminaries were the hallmark of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche's deep training and study of the Buddhist three yana path. Now, the Three Yana Retreat is being offered by the Vidyadhara's senior students to a new generation of practitioners wishing to enter into the Vajrayana within the tradition of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. In July 2024, over fifty-five new students from Shambhala and other sanghas participated in this one-month residential retreat, immersing themselves in practice and study of the Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. Drala Mountain Center will be hosting this retreat again in the summer of 2025.
If you are looking to deepen, or begin, your Buddhist studies path as presented by Trungpa Rinpoche, please join us for this Sunday Gathering discussion, hosted by Adrienne Chang, one of the core faculty members in this year's 2024 Three Yana Retreat. We will discuss Trungpa Rinpoche's vision for joining study and practice within the immersive seminary model and the foundational preliminaries for entering the Vajrayana. The Three Yana Retreat includes intensive shamatha vipashyana practice, Sutrayana and Vajrayana study, tutorial groups, Vajrayana transmission by one of the Vidyadhara's senior students, and introduction and practice to the Kagyu ngondro. Important topics regarding Vajrayana transmission, samaya, and the role of the Vajrayana guru will be discussed. For more information, please visit https://www.3yanas.org/
About Adrienne
Adrienne Chang has studied in the tradition of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche for fifteen years, helping co-lead Shambhala and Buddhist meditation retreats and study courses in Europe, North America, and online. In 2019, Adrienne was nominated to join the Milinda Program, a ten-year, inter-sangha Buddhist teacher training program under the guidance of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, which meets in Asia for three months of shedra study every year. Originally from the United States, Adrienne earned an MA in International Public Policy at Columbia University, and has had a career in management consulting. She has taught and published in the fields of Buddhist philosophy and history, meditation, and aging and spirituality. She currently resides in Luxembourg and France, and is on the Board of Directors for Dechen Choling, the Shambhala land center in Limoges, France. As the sole member of the core teaching faculty of the Three Yana Retreat who is a 'next-generation' practitioner who never met the Vidyadhara, Adrienne brings a unique perspective to continuing the living tradition of Trungpa Rinpoche.
